This is my collage from class. It was one of those all-nighters I mentioned in my journal. Yes...coffee is nice.
Anyways, the content, I think, is clear. It shows the difference between idealistic women portrayed in the media and in the minds of too many people nowadays, and real, vibrant, unique women who, though flawed, are none the less beautiful, through juxtaposition of color on black and white. Flaws are beautiful! I used precisely cut edges for the black and white images to show that those ideas are manufactured perfection, while the images, patterns, and colors on the woman figure are all ripped, revealing a natural and organic quality. The black frames around some of the b/w images is meant to echo the feel of pre-designed confinement and the shape of the televison screen, or magazine cover. The classical architecture (not that I have anything against it) just reinforces the idealism of hollywood and the media. And, just because I like telling people this, the little piece that says the word "surgery" said this in full:
"a dab a day keep surgery away", marketing for some cosmetic product. Sad, isn't it?
The orange outline helps the figure stand out from the background. It also symbolizes positive energy.
